Together with local, state, and federal funding for land acquisition and trail construction, numerous organizations and individuals have joined together to make The Ohio to Erie Trail a reality.
The sources of funds for Ohio to Erie Trail land acquisition, design, and construction include:
State - the Ohio General Assembly; the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (Nature Works grants); the Ohio Department of Transportation (Transportation Enhancement 21 funds)
Federal - direct Congressional grants for the Canal Heritage Area and Transportation Enhancement funds administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation
Columbus Outdoor Pursuits (COP)
COP was the single largest donor to The Ohio to Erie Trail Fund, and without its generosity The Ohio to Erie Trail would not exist. A stone marker was placed at State Street and Electric Avenue in Westerville commemorating COP's support of the trail.
